Our Update #1
• As the new academic year approached, the askanim at D’ror did not forget the children of Dror who were in need of school placement, and succeeded in enrolling numerous children of our clients into community Yeshivos and schools in time for the new school year. Special thanks goes to the askanim involved in the various mosdos for sparing no effort to assist us in this mission.
• On behalf of our grateful clients, we express our gratitude to Stern’s Bakery for donating all the challos, cakes, and other baked goods which were served to our constituents throughout the season of the Yamim Tovim, bringing light and Yom Tov spirit to them during this difficult time.
• D’ror would like to express sincere thanks to an anonymous donor who sponsored all the machzorim and taleisim which were used on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur in prisons throughout the USA. This includes the prison chaplains who went above and beyond in coordinating and overseeing this monumental undertaking. It is our fervent hope that next Rosh Hashanah all of these inmates will davening with their own families in their own congregations.
• Personal Leshana Tova greeting cards, along with calendars for the upcoming year were sent out to all Dror constituents in prisons throughout the country. In addition to the year-round Torah pamphlets and materials, this calendar mailing also included numerous upcoming events—keeping the inmates informed and connected with the outside world.
• Dror welcomed UJO’s Rabbi Moshe Duvid Niederman as he returned from his recent trip to Washington where he was involved in advocating with government officials for the enforcement of the Treaty Transfer Law. Special thanks to Reb Berel Sheinfeld who sponsored this most important trip, and to R’ Tzvi Borasky from aleph for arranging the logistics for this crucial venture.
• D’ror recently succeeded in releasing an inmate on $50,000 bail. Due to lack of funds, three whole months had elapsed since the beginning of the efforts on behalf of this individual. At long last, through the generous sponsorship of Mr. Shea Lefkowitz of Sea Gate, the grateful inmate was reunited with his family which includes his ailing mother.
• On behalf of all the grateful constituents, D’ror expresses its appreciation to Mr. Lipa Barminger for sponsoring fish for all the Yamim Tovim. Special thanks is also due to Mr. Neustein for organizing the significant logistics in getting the highly perishable food to the inmates wherever they may find themselves.
• We are pleased to report the wonderful news that permission has finally been granted for Yaakov Yosef ben Reizel Greenwald (the last remaining bachur in Japan) to meet with his father more than the previously allotted15 minutes per month! The visit will transpire within the upcoming days, B’ezras Hashem.
• Special thanks to R’ Yochi Mendlowitz, who sponsored the meals throughout Rosh Hashanah in honor of his daughter’s wedding. All the inmates conveyed their gratitude for their enhanced simchas Yom Tov; Dror would also like to express our heartfelt Mazel tov wishes to Rabbi Mendlowitz that the couple merit to build a bayis ne’eman b’yisroel.
• Dror would like to express its thanks to Rabbi Genack of the OU for all the time and effort he invested on behalf of the Jewish inmates incarcerated in Libya. We were gratified that the judge ordered the prosecutor to release the prisoners on bail. Special mention must be made of Rabbi Potasnik of the Jewish Board of Rabbis for his tireless efforts in this matter.
